THE NATIONAL STRATEGY FOR PANDEMIC INFLUENZA

The virulence of certain animal influenza strains and their potential to evolve into new, deadlier variants mean we must prepare for pandemic influenza now. Recent outbreaks of avian influenza subtype A (H5N1) and influenza A (H1N1) have intensified the need for preparedness. Guidance has been issued to help emergency responders, public health professionals, and health care providers prepare for and respond to such a pandemic.

LLIS.gov is conducting research and providing information regarding those aspects of previous influenza pandemics, other infectious disease outbreaks, and bioterrorism preparedness and response that would be applicable to the problem of pandemic influenza. Lessons Learned, Best Practices, Good Stories, Practice Notes, and other information that would be useful in preventing, detecting, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from pandemic influenza can be found here.
