Our Emergency Shelter

Senator Brown and Susan W. Pope are pleased to announce that the generator at Wayland’s primary emergency shelter is now operational. The $225,000 needed for the generator was secured by Brown and Pope in the State’sFY07 budget.

The new emergency generator provides a seamless transition of electrical power to the Wayland Middle School, in the event of an emergency that would knock out power and require evacuating people from their homes -- such as a hurricane, blizzard, flooding or terrorist attack.

If an evacuation were necessary in Wayland, or a surrounding community, the emergency shelter will now be able to provide heat, hot water, and hot food for those in need.

Wayland is the only town in Massachusetts to be awarded funding for an emergency generator of the fifteen that applied.

“This is a great win for Wayland and the region,” state Senator Brown. “Rep. Pope and I worked hard to get this funding and I am glad these efforts paid off.” "After meeting with both the Fire and Police chiefs, I became aware of just how important it was to have a generator for our emergency center; this center will be the emergency place for use by surrounding towns, if needed, so I was thrilled to have been able to get this much needed piece of equipment."
